According to the United States Chamber of Commerce, since the North American Free Trade Agreement took effect, trade with Mexico has increased from [USD] $81 billion to over $332 billion in 2006, ranking Mexico as the country’s third largest trade partner after Canada and China. And per the US Census Bureau data, a significant percentage of the trade is from transportation [Mexico manufactures automobiles and trucks for most major vehicle nameplates] oil and gas, and electronics.

As of June 2007 the US trade deficit with Mexico was $33.8 billion. The USA’s trade deficit with Canada is approximately $34.1 billion. For comparison, the deficit with China stood at $117.5 billion and $40.2 billion with Japan .
